The story behind it:
Attempted murder in Caledonia warrants
Seven individuals sought in Friday altercations
Two OPP officers, U.S. agent pulled from vehicle
Police yesterday issued arrest warrants for seven individuals wanted in connection with escalating violence at a land-claim dispute in Caledonia over the weekend, including one for the attempted murder of a police officer.
One man is facing an attempted murder charge after taking an unmarked U.S. Border Patrol vehicle and throwing out its three occupants two provincial police officers and an American border agent.
The vehicle was then "deliberately" driven at an OPP officer, who was injured as he was pulled out of its path by fellow officers. The officer was treated in hospital and released.
Officers from the U.S. Border Patrol were in the area to observe how provincial police were handling the standoff.
The officer was one of a handful of people injured Friday, a day that had residents chanting at police, accusing OPP officers of standing by and doing nothing while assaults took place in front of them.
The latest incident started before noon Friday, when an elderly couple visiting the Caledonia area became involved in an altercation with First Nations individuals who are occupying a land-development site.
Kathe Golke had to bring her husband, Gunter Golke, to hospital for observation because he was suffering from heart pains.
Two TV cameramen who filmed that incident were allegedly assaulted by at least four men trying to steal the camera and destroy the tape. Nick Garbutt and Ken MacKay said about 15 OPP officers stood by and made no attempt to intervene.
"They looked at me but they did not utter a word, they did not make a move," MacKay said.
OPP deputy commissioner Maurice Pilon said an internal investigation is being conducted into the incident.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Albert Douglas, 30, of Ohsweken, Ont. Douglas is wanted on charges including attempted murder, robbery, forcible confinement, dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle.
Arrest warrants are also out for Audra Ann Taillefer, 45, of Victoria for two counts of intimidation and one of robbery; Skylar Williams, 22, of Ohsweken, for robbery; Arnold Douglas, 61, of Ohsweken, for two counts of intimidation; Trevor Miller, 30, of no fixed address for robbery and theft of a motor vehicle; and Ken Hill, 47, of Ohsweken, two counts of assault.
Police added an arrest warrant is pending for one male suspect on a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
